Columbia River Gorge 2019

Portland, OR

Over three million people visit the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area every year — many of whom go on a hike. This 85-mile long, iconic canyon landscape is only 20 miles from 2.5 million people living in the Portland metropolitan area — the most populous area in Oregon. Through the Hot Spot program will focus on improving education for recreational visitors regarding the Leave No Trace Principles and decrease the human-impact seen along the trails and at trailheads.  We will be working with state and federal land managers, friends groups and volunteers, travel and tourism groups, among many other partners to develop and host educational programs and workshops, strategic planning meetings, and other public programming to strengthen the stewardship community along the Gorge.
