Places We've Shaped
Lansing, MI: Lansing City Parks are a lot of things.
They’re cool swimming pools. And favorite fishing spots.
Lansing City Parks are the heart of the city.
They’re playgrounds, kayak trips, and basketball courts for shooting hoops.
Lansing parks are great places for a basketball game with friends.
And they’re more than 20 miles of riverside trails for morning runs, long walks, wildlife watching, family bike rides, and even skateboarding with friends.
More visitors are discovering that Lansing is a great place to paddle.
But check out this video from the City of Lansing Parks Hot Spot week to find out what Lansing isn’t!
Occasionally city park visitors litter on purpose. Often, though, we create litter because we’re careless. Trash falls out of our pockets, we forget our lunch baggies on a bench in a hurry to get back to the office, or the park trash cans are full after a busy weekend and we didn’t come prepared to take home our picnic trash.
Lots of visitors mean trash cans can fill up fast.
Or we don’t realize that food is trash, too, and we leave it on the ground…where it can last anywhere from a few weeks (apple cores) to a few years (orange peels). Meanwhile, local wildlife can become a little too accustomed to our food scraps and become sick – or annoying beggers.
Mulberries are good for ducks. Human food scraps – not so much.
While we usually don’t spend hours planning a trip to our favorite city parks, simply keeping a small trash bag in your pocket when you head to the park can keep litter where it belongs.
Because, in case you hadn’t heard…
Lansing isn’t litter.
