Gold Standard Site

Coconino National Forest

Flagstaff, AZ

The Coconino NF is a leader of Leave No Trace outreach and education in the southwest. This is evident in the number of staff currently trained as Leave No Trace Master Educators and Trainers. It is apparent in the forest’s Leave No Trace education outreach campaign – including signs, trailhead kiosks, publications (website and handouts), and visitor center / front desk displays. In addition, the forest has established many partnerships to effectively reach a spectrum of forest visitors about light on the land ethics. This includes academic institutions, outfitter-guides, permittees, non-governmental organizations, and federal, state, and county agencies.
