The Hot Spot Program identifies areas suffering from severe human-related impacts that can thrive again with Leave No Trace solutions. Locations will receive a unique, site-specific blend of educational, outreach, and training programs aimed at creating a sustainable future for the site.

Leave No Trace will be at Chugach National Forest | July 18-22, 2024 collaborating with hosts and partners on a variety of programs.

Opportunities to Get Involved:

Thursday, July 18 – Effective Communication of Leave No Trace

This workshop is designed for agency employees, partners, volunteers and others who educate and interface with the public in a formal capacity or work on messaging and communications for a site. Participants will learn tips, tools and best practices to effectively communicate the hows and whys behind Leave No Trace.

Friday, July 19 – Leave No Trace Youth Educator Workshop

Designed for rangers, naturalists, teachers, guides, camp staff, and other full-time/seasonal youth educators interested in teaching kids how to enjoy the outdoors responsibly. This workshop will cover best practices for effectively reaching youth with Leave No Trace, including fun and interactive games and activities educators can use

Friday, July 19 – Leave No Trace Pop-up Education at Girdwood Brewing Company,  5:30-7:30pm

Join Leave No Trace and Chugach National Forest staff for engaging outreach and education, and play quick games and activities to learn more about Leave No Trace and how to protect the Chugach National Forest and all your favorite outdoor spaces.

Saturday, July 20 – Leave No Trace Volunteer Stewardship Project, 10 AM to  2 PM

Join Leave No Trace and Chugach National Forest for a fun volunteer day and stewardship project as part of the Glacier Ranger District Leave No Trace Hot Spot. Give back to Chugach National Forest by volunteering to help revitalize Winner Creek. Work may include revegetation, sign installation, and trail clearing.

Saturday, July 20 – Leave No Trace Pop-up Education at Creekbend Cafe, 7 PM – 9 pm

Join Leave No Trace and Chugach National Forest staff for engaging outreach and education, and play quick games and activities to learn more about Leave No Trace and how to protect the Chugach National Forest and all your favorite outdoor spaces.

Sunday, July 21 – Leave No Trace Pop-up Education at Wagon Run 5K, 8 am –3 pm

Join Leave No Trace and Chugach National Forest staff and partners for engaging outreach and education, and play quick games and activities to learn more about Leave No Trace and how to protect the Chugach National Forest and all your favorite outdoor spaces.
