Up a Creek in Austin

Joining with our educational partner the Student Conservation Association, or SCA, the Leave No Trace e-tour Team landed in Austin last Friday for a cleanup, some awareness workshops, and an overnight campout filled with s'mores and fellowship! Our day began on Waller Creek on the campus of the University of Texas-Austin, where we met up with some of SCA's national crew leaders, some participants from that weekend's Outdoor Nation Summit in Austin, and the office of Environmental Health and Safety at UT-Austin for a clean up event. After collecting trash ranging from cigarette butts to water-...

Honorary Cajuns

Down on the Bayou in the July heat, the Leave No Trace e-tour team joined up with Boy Scouts from across Southern Louisiana for a weekend full of Leave No Trace education, volunteer conservation work, campsongs, and tasty Cajun eating. The Evangaline Area Council organized a whole weekend dedicated to Leave No Trace where we held awareness workshops with adult Scouters, Boy Scouts, Webelos, and Cub Scouts. No matter their age group,6 all of the participants really dug into our cathole discussions. What's more fun to talk about with Boy Scouts than how to poop in the woods? Absolutely nothing...

A Summer On Bainbridge Island...

...would be magical, but in the world of a Subaru Traveling Trainer you've got to fit that all in a week. We spent this week working with Bainbridge Island Metro Parks and Recreation District . These folks know how to get out and play! On Sunday we joined the Outdoor Programs for a hike on the Elwha River within Olympic National Park. This is a special waterway right now because it is currently undergoing a significant dam removal process. From speaking with guides and locals we learned that salmon have already started using the newly reopened habitat. We spoke to the group about outdoor...

100 Years of Girl Scouts Adventuring!

In Savannah, GA, in 1912, Juliette Gordon Low founded the Girl Scouts of the USA. One hundred years later, that organization is alive and well. While on March 12, 1912, Low assembled 18 girls for the first meeting, this past week in Savannah, GA, we saw over 1,600 girls and adult leaders come together for a Centennial Camporee! At this event, they celebrated the incredible history of the organization, worked on awesome activities, and got to spend some quality time outdoors canoeing, SCUBA diving, shooting shotguns, and visiting the beautiful Georgia Coast. Hailing from over 30 states, these...

With a group of excited Scouts, we explored some of the best highlights of Leave No Trace -- Trash Your Trash and the elusive cathole. Totally Tetons

With a backdrop as iconic as the Grand Tetons, the importance of practicing and spreading the Seven Principles of Leave No Trace easily comes to the forefront. We've spent the last three days holding a cavalcade of workshops for park guests, and the staff of both Grand Teton Lodge Company and Flagg Ranch. Visitors converge here from around the globe to experience world renown screnery and wildlife. We found that a common ground of marvel and wonderment regarding the out of doors served as a perfect jumping off point for our speaking to guests about Leave No Trace. We're hoping those who...
