Level 1 Instructor Courses

Leave No Trace Level 1 Instructor Course – Appalachian Mtn Club

Leave No Trace is a national and international program designed to assist outdoor enthusiasts with their decisions about how to reduce their impacts when they hike, camp, picnic, snowshoe, run, bike, hunt, paddle, ride horses, fish, ski, or climb. The program strives to educate all those who enjoy the outdoors about the nature of their recreational impacts as well as techniques to prevent and minimize such impacts. Leave No Trace is best understood as an educational and ethical program, not as a set of rules and regulations. Nine out of ten people who visit the outdoors are uniformed about minimizing their impacts. Leave No Trace training is helping to instill an outdoor ethic in all those how enjoy spending time outside.

Participants in the two-day Level 1 Instructor Course learn Leave No Trace skills and ethics as well as techniques for educating others about these low impact practices. Level 1 Instructor Courses involve a blend of classroom instruction and outdoor activity. We typically spend more than half of the course outdoors. Graduates of a Level 1 Instructor Course are prepared to offer Leave No Trace Workshops to their community. Research has shown that this course significantly improves participant knowledge and understanding of how Leave No Trace protects the outdoor places we love.
