Leave No Trace and U.S. Commercial Service Team Up for Sustainable Travel Awareness Month

Andrew Leary - July 20, 2023

This July, Leave No Trace and the U.S. Commercial Service are collaborating on an awareness campaign that brings greater visibility to sustainable travel in the United States. “To bring this campaign to life, we looked forward to partnering with an organization that aligns with our values, and Leave No Trace emerged as the perfect candidate,” said Aron Davidson, Global Teams Leader for Travel & Tourism at the U.S. Commercial Service.

The campaign strategy is sharing Leave No Trace education social media content with U.S. Embassies and Consulates worldwide. Distributing the content through these official channels reaches a vast audience of potential U.S. travelers in each market. For several years Leave No Trace has elevated its education reach within domestic U.S. travel markets, working with destinations to promote responsible recreation and visitation.

“The project is a win-win situation for everyone involved,” says Andrew Leary, Director of Sustainable Tourism and Partnerships at Leave No Trace. “Reaching would-be international visitors with Leave No Trace education ahead of their trip helps ensure an awareness that impacts take place when we spend time in natural areas—and that those impacts can be reduced significantly by simple, accessible Leave No Trace practices.”

In addition, to Leave No Trace’s core education content, the campaign will also feature a number of the organization’s tourism partners who have brought responsible recreation education priorities to their destinations: Sonoma County, CA; the State of Colorado; Bradenton, FL; the State of North Carolina; and Marquette, MI.
