Gold Standard Site

Olympic National Park

Port Angeles,

Olympic uses Leave No Trace across the board from the backcountry to the frontcountry and across various ages and recreation choices. Leave No Trace signage is found at trailheads and the Wilderness Information Center. Youth can expand their knowledge on Leave No Trace through activities in the Junior Ranger activity book and education programs.

There has been an increase in use to both the backcountry and frontcountry areas in addition to high visitation numbers. In turn, Leave No Trace is crucial to decreasing impacts across the park. Olympic successfully partners with community, commercial and special use organizations that operate in public lands. These partners, with the help of the interpretation and education staff, focus on environmental education and Leave No Trace. Olympic requires commercial and non-profit groups that guide trips in the wilderness to teach Leave No Trace principles to their participants.
