Protect the Next 250

America’s 250th anniversary is a chance to look back at what we’ve built together — and commit to protecting it for the next 250 years. Leave No Trace has partnered with the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management to launch a national campaign focused on caring for public lands, from local parks to national forests and open spaces across the country.

We’ve created free resources for young people, families, educators, and outdoor enthusiasts to celebrate, learn, and take action. Watch the campaign video below, then explore and download youth activity booklets, posters, and social assets to share the message in your community.

Protecting the next 250 years of public lands starts with the choices we make today.

Through educational materials, youth-focused programming, and shareable social content, the initiative highlights how small actions like staying on trails, disposing of waste properly, and respecting wildlife can add up to a major impact.

Download the Poster

As we reflect on 250 years of shared history, we also have a responsibility to the next 250. Download our America 250 poster and help spread the message that protecting forests, rivers, and wild places starts with each of us. Display it, share it, and be part of the solution.

Three versions are available with each download: two with a navy background (18×25 and 8.5×11), and one with a white background (8.5×11) for easy printing.

As we celebrate our nation’s history, let’s also look ahead to the next 250 years of forests, rivers, and wild places. By practicing Leave No Trace, together we can protect the land for generations to come.

Throughout 2026, spread Leave No Trace and support public lands with quarterly educational messages.

Protect the Lands

The beauty of America is reflected in the lands we protect. From alpine trails to desert canyons, every place tells our shared story. To protect the lands we love: Know Before You Go, Stick to Trails, Leave What You Find, and Have a Poop Plan.

Protect Wildlife

America’s wild heritage depends on us. From elk in the Rockies to sea turtles on the coast, every species deserves a safe, healthy habitat. To Protect Wildlife and coexist respectfully, Keep Your Distance, Secure Food, Control Pets, and Respect Habitat.

Our public lands unite us — and how we share them defines the experience. To protect the experience for everyone, Share the Space, Yield to Others, Mind the Noise, and Practice Safety.

Protect the Next 250 Years
