Summersville Lake Hot Spot Events

The Subaru/Leave No Trace Team will be at the Summersville Lake Leave No Trace Hot Spot August 11-15, 2022 leading a variety of workshops, outreach programs and community events.

 

Opportunities to Get Involved:

Friday, August 12:

Paddle Board at Summersville LakeJoin Active Southern West Virginia for a FREE stand up paddle board demonstration including tips to Leave No Trace while paddling.  Instructions and equipment will be provided. No reservation is needed. Equipment will be based on a first-come, first-serve basis. 10:00 am – 1:00 pm at Battle Run Recreation Area (beach & campground).  More information

Community Meet & Greet/Leave No Trace Trivia Night – Join the Subaru/Leave No Trace Teams and Summersville Lake partners for a night of community outreach and a fun trivia game with giveaway prizes at Gad Dam Brewing in Summersville, WV from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Live music begins at 8pm. Made possible in partnership with Summersville CVB. More information

Saturday, August 13:

Volunteer Stewardship Service ProjectJoin Leave No Trace and US Army Corps of Engineers staff and partners for a fun volunteer day and stewardship project. Volunteers will help clean up trash and litter at impacted areas of Summersville Lake shorelines and beaches including Salmon Run and Waterfall Cove. Volunteers will be introduced to Leave No Trace and the Hot Spot program, receive a rundown on the clean up project and safety briefing, and learn more about how to protect Summersville Lake. Volunteers will travel to clean up sites by boats staffed by the USACE and local marina. 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. Meet at Battle Run Recreation Area.  More information

Each Day:

Climber Coffee with Access Fund & Leave No Trace – Join Leave No Trace & the Access Fund for community outreach at Climber Coffee. Learn how to minimize impacts while climbing and recreating at Summersville Lake and how to protect this site for all to enjoy into the future. Each day the Access Fund will be providing complimentary coffee before events.
