Hot Spot

Hixon Forest | Sept. 16-20, 2021

La Crosse, WI

Hixon Forest is made up of criss-crossing multi-use trails on the eastern edge of La Crosse, Wisconsin. Trails in Hixon Forest offer access to the popular Grandad Bluff Park and associated stunning views of the Mississippi, as well as four other designated vistas. With hiking and biking both allowed in the forest, this has lead to some user conflicts as well as various trail impacts, invasive species considerations, pet management issues and litter impacts. For the Hot Spot activation, the Subaru/Leave No Trace Team will be at Hixon Forest leading a variety of workshops, outreach programs and community events, including opportunities for community involvement.

*Hixon Forest is located on the ancestral lands of the Očeti Šakówiŋ (Sioux), Ho-Chunk (Winnebago), Sauk and Meskwaki and possibly other tribes*
