Hot Spot

Base and Meridian Wildlife Area | Feb. 26- Mar. 2, 2020

Tolleson, AZ

Base and Meridian Wildlife area is a rare and beautiful riparian area at the confluence of the Salt River and the Gila River just west of Phoenix, Arizona. Managed for waterfowl, riparian values and opportunities for recreation, the area has been experiencing impacts ranging from user conflicts to illegal target shooting, water resource impacts and damage to sensitive riparian vegetation.

*The Base and Meridian Wildlife Area is located on the ancestral lands of the Hohokam, Akimel O’odham (Upper Pima), Yavapai, O’odham and possibly other tribes*

Solutions

During the Hot Spot activation, the Subaru/Leave No Trace Team led a variety of workshops, outreach programs, and community events at Base and Meridian Wildlife Area. This included a Wildlife Area Cleanup with a 30min Leave No Trace introduction, and educational youth activities at the Tres Rios Festival.
