Mount Major Reservation Hot Spot

Mount Major is part of the Belknap mountain range in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. The reservation offers scenic forest trails and stunning views of the surrounding area. It is a popular place for hiking and dog walking and sees around 80,000 visitors each year. It is one of the most hiked mountains in New Hampshire and has seen severe recreational impacts from heavy use.

To help address these impacts, Mount Major was selected as a 2019 Leave No Trace Hot Spot. Traveling Trainers spent a week at Mount Major working with The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests and other stakeholders to educate visitors on how they can practice Leave No Trace to help protect this uniques area.
