Leave No Trace Center For Outdoor Ethics

Educating people to value the outdoor experience and the spirit of fellowship it evokes.

Twenty-five years ago, environmental advocates from the public, the outdoor industry and the land management community responded to a call to protect our natural lands and the Leave No Trace organization was born. Fast-forward to 2019, and the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics is building upon its intention to ensure that all people and every park, forest and protected area in the country are powered with strong Leave No Trace skills and ethics.

In 25 years, Leave No Trace has evolved into an organization that, with boldness and intention, provides cutting-edge, research-based critical education and programs for people in all outdoor environments. It has transformed into a conservation ethic empowering every person, individually, to build a personal framework that is unique to them. This—the Leave No Trace spirit of personal engagement—is an incredibly powerful facet of the conservation movement.

To that end the Center is embarking on a slate of 2019 work to:

  • Connect people through Citizen Science projects
  • Educate people by ensuring Leave No Trace programs are alive in all 61 national parks
  • Protect the outdoors with innovative research to strengthen the science of Leave No Trace

Today 9 out of 10 people don’t have the education they need to Leave No Trace in the Outdoors. We plan to flip that statistic.

Let’s protect and enjoy our natural world together
