Red River Gorge Revisit 2016

Stanton, KY

Red River Gorge National Geologic Area attracts thousands of visitors each year to its unique sandstone rock features. With 300,000 annual visitors, outdoor enthusiasts enjoy recreation opportunities such as hiking, camping, canoeing and wildlife viewing on the 29,000 acres. Impacts in the area include overcrowding, switchback cutting, wildlife impacts, improper disposal of human waste, campfire impacts, and visitors removing historical artifacts. During the Hot Spot Revisit, the Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainer team provided an awareness workshop for agency employees and volunteers. They conducted visitor outreach at the trailhead of the most-impacted area within Red River Gorge.
