Hot Spot

Lake Tahoe Region 2016

South Lake Tahoe, CA

Lake Tahoe is a famous large freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, located on the border of California and Nevada, spanning multiple counties. It includes 72 miles of shoreline with about 23 million visitors annually. Problems include the spread of aquatic invasive species, micro-trash and cigarette butts, improper disposal of dog waste on beaches, and human-bear conflicts. On-site, the Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainer team hosted workshops that focused on communication techniques for local stakeholders and worked with volunteers and Keep Tahoe Blue. The team also participated in a trail building event hosted by the Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association and the US Forest Service.
