Fayette County Nature Area 2016

Peachtree City, GA

Within Fayette County, there are eight public nature areas totaling 1,100 acres. With high volume access and visitation occurring mostly during peak hours, a single park in the county, Line Creek Nature Area, has been recorded to see 25,000 visitors in a single year. Impacts affecting these frontcountry parks include litter and trash, vandalism to signage and structures, and social trails. The Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainer team hosted awareness workshops, outreach with local youth in schools, trainings for park managers, an educational hike for the public, and a geocaching/trash clean-up event. Meetings with land managers from Fayette County and Spaulding County Parks and Recreation were effective and discussed standardizing signage throughout the parks.
