Gold Standard Site

City of Colorado Springs Regional Parks, Trails and Open Spaces

Colorado Springs, CO

The City of Colorado Springs began working towards Gold Standard Site designation in 2019. Through incredible collaboration with staff throughout the agency and volunteers from many different friends groups as well as community organizations, in 2022 they came together to submit 16 sites for consideration as a Gold Standard unit. Throughout this process, the City of Colorado Springs has demonstrated a deep commitment to Leave No Trace education integration in staff and volunteer training, online information, signage, and programs that reach youth and the wider Colorado Springs community. Colorado Springs is the first municipal site to receive this designation and serves as a model for other municipal park agencies looking to incorporate a higher level of Leave No Trace education throughout their operations.
