Citizen and Community Science

Leave No Trace’s Citizen and Community Science program builds a community of people working together to gather information and build an outdoor ethic that protects natural areas for future generations.

In 2018, Leave No Trace began piloting Citizen and Community Science projects, encouraging participants to record observations in the field with smartphones and mobile-friendly web pages. In 2019, the emphasis for this program shifts to the Hot Spots communities — these highly engaged partners are perfect for advancing our plans to assist land managers and scientists in monitoring the impacts created by recreation-related activities.
