Leave No Trace Trainer Course – Yosemite Conservancy

When: Friday, June 17 (evening) to Sunday, June 19 ending around 3 pm 

Where: Yosemite Valley then hiking the Alder Creek Trail

Description:  The Leave No Trace principles encourage everyone to enjoy the outdoors responsibly and ensure the long-term health of the environment wherever you go, whether you’re picnicking in a city park or backpacking in the mountains. During this overnight Leave No Trace Trainer Course with a Leave No Trace Master Educator, you’ll hike and camp in the Yosemite backcountry while learning how to minimize the unintended impacts humans can have on outdoor spaces — and learn tips to reduce waste generation in Yosemite and at home. Discuss and share Leave No Trace and zero waste practices for planning outdoor activities, hiking, cooking outside, cleaning up a campsite, and more.

You’ll have the opportunity to earn your Leave No Trace Trainer certification, which qualifies you to lead Leave No Trace awareness workshops and educate others about best practices for minimum-footprint outdoor experiences.

Registration includes: Two-day Leave No Trace Trainer Course, park entry (as needed), and two nights of tent camping at a shared group site in Yosemite Valley (June 17 and June 19). There is no discount if you choose not to use the included gate pass or campsite. 

Lodging: Tent camping (included, dates cannot be adjusted). No additional lodging options have been arranged for this program, but guests are welcome to find their own alternate accommodations if desired. 

Experience level: No experience necessary!  

COVID-19: We have implemented special safety measures to keep participants and instructors safe during the ongoing pandemic. For example, participants will hike single-file and keep moving to avoid crowding the trail, and instructors will stop to offer interpretation only when there is ample space to stay at least six feet apart. 

Upon completion of the weekend class you will be: 

•  A certified Leave No Trace Trainer  
• Will have been taught the tools to teach others about Outdoor Ethics
• Teach Outdoor Ethics Guides and Outdoor Ethics Awareness
