Level 1 Instructor Courses

Leave No Trace Trainer Course – BSA

This course will be held at Yawgoog Scout Reservation in Rockville, RI and overnight camping is part of the course.

This course is for everyone age 14 and older who will teach Leave No Trace to others. Participants learn LNT principles, skills, and ethics through a combination of presentation, discussion, and hands-on activities. They learn and practice techniques for teaching these concepts. The Cub Scout, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Sea Scout programs all include outdoor stewardship, care for the environment, and Leave No Trace as part of their programs. This course is offered to train adults and youth aged 14 to serve their units and districts as Leave No Trace Trainers and as Outdoor Ethics Guides. Every Cub Scout, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Sea Scout unit should have at least one Leave No Trace/Outdoor Ethics Trainer. We recommend that Boy Scouts complete this course before serving in the troop Outdoor Ethics Guide position. The course is highly recommended for members of the Districts’ outdoor skills training teams who teach IOLS, BALOO, OWLS, and Leader Specific Training.

This course is designed to enhance your understanding of Leave No Trace practices and outdoor ethics and increase your level of confidence teaching Leave No Trace skills and ethics. You will be introduced to concepts and methods that will advance your knowledge of recreational impacts and Leave No Trace ethics in developed areas and high adventure back country environments. Upon completion of this course, participants will be registered as Leave No Trace Trainers with the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics and with the BSA. Students will receive Leave No Trace teaching materials, a certificate of course completion, a Leave No Trace Trainer patch, and a BSA Leave No Trace Trainer card. This course is instructed by nationally designated Leave No Trace Master Educators and Trainers. Attendance for the entire duration of the training is required.

Course Cost: $45.00 (Includes camping fees, council fees, AND over $75 worth of LNT program materials at commercial price. Participants will be split into patrols and responsible for planning, purchasing, and cooking their own patrol meals).

Course size is limited, Register soon! Registration links can be found on the Council Calendar.
