Leave No Trace Spotlight: Mohonk Preserve

Leave No Trace’s new Spotlight program is a multi-day event to bring attention to community conservation, spread education, and to build momentum and inspire involvement for the future.

The Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Team will be at the Mohonk Preserve Spotlight July 28-30, collaborating with hosts and partners on a variety of programs including stewardship projects, workshops, and community outreach.

Opportunities to Get Involved:

Friday, July 28: Trivia and Coffee with a Ranger, 9:30 am – 11:00 am

Stop by the West Traps Trailhead Welcome Boulder to learn about Leave No Trace, test your knowledge, and chat with Mohonk Preserve Rangers.

Saturday, July 29: Stewardship Projects, starting at 10:00 am

Family Stewardship Project with Native Plants: Stop by the Testimonial Gateway Trailhead to learn about and participate in native plantings and invasive species removal from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm.

Introduction to Trail Maintenance: Come join Leave No Trace and Mohonk Preserve to learn general trail maintenance through participating in a stewardship project at the Mohonk Preserve. Participants can expect to hike less than one mile total, and learn basic trail maintenance skills. Gloves and tools will be provided, please prepare for the weather and bring a lunch. We will be working along the Campground Connector Trail from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Space is limited, so register today!

Low-Impact Climbing and Campfire Discussion: Join the Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Team and Patrol Rangers at Samuel F. Pryor 3rd Shawangunk Gateway Campground from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm. Learn more about Leave No Trace and ways to reduce impacts while climbing. Note: this event is for those staying at the campground.

Sunday, July 30: Spotlight Social, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

Come to the Testimonial Gateway Trailhead to meet with the Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Team, Mohonk Preserve, Gunks Climbing Coalition, Shawangunk Biking Association, Rise Outside, Adaptive Climbing groups, and other local partners. Learn more about Leave No Trace and ways to get involved with local partners.
