Leave No Trace Master Educator Course – Appalachian Mtn Club (AMC)

Leave No Trace is a national and international program designed to assist outdoor enthusiasts with their decisions about how to reduce their impacts when they hike, camp, picnic, snowshoe, run, bike, hunt, paddle, ride horses, fish, ski, or climb. The program strives to educate all those who enjoy the outdoors about the nature of their recreational impacts as well as techniques to prevent and minimize such impacts. Leave No Trace is best understood as an educational and ethical program, not as a set of rules and regulations. Nine out of ten people who visit the outdoors are uniformed about minimizing their impacts. Leave No Trace training is helping to instill an outdoor ethic in all those how enjoy spending time outside.

This five-day Leave No Trace Master Educator course is designed for individuals who are actively teaching others backcountry skills or providing recreation information to the public. Through classroom discussions and lectures this course will cover the seven Leave No Trace principles and discuss wildland ethics, as well as give the participants the tools and techniques for disseminating these low-impact skills to other users of the backcountry. Participants could include a mixture of federal agency partners, educators, outdoor retailers, youth group and outing club leaders, and other individuals. Upon completion of the course, you will be qualified to teach Leave No Trace Trainer courses. The Leave No Trace Master Educator qualification is recognized and valued throughout the outdoor industry. This course is based out of AMC’s Cardigan Lodge with day hiking trips to different locations, and one overnight at High Cabin.
