Become a State Advocate

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide support for local groups, individuals, businesses, and organizations looking for Leave No Trace education, training, or outreach.
  • Respond to local Leave No Trace inquiries via email and phone.
  • Build and coordinate a network of volunteers to support statewide Leave No Trace efforts.
  • Provide local support for organizational initiatives, including Leave No Trace for Every Kid and Leave No Trace in Every Park.
  • Track and communicate Leave No Trace education in your state through quarterly reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • An interest and commitment to Leave No Trace’s overall mission, goals, and objectives.
  • Previous experience with the Leave No Trace program.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and organized.
  • Leave No Trace training is preferred but not required.

LENGTH OF SERVICE
State Advocates generally serve a two-year term. Upon completion of that term, Advocates may continue to serve based on their interest, accomplishments, and needs of the organization. There is no time requirement in terms of hours.

SUPPORT
General guidelines and resources are provided for various elements of the position, as well as Leave No Trace staff who are available to answer questions and provide assistance. Advocates have access to materials for events and a discount for purchasing education and outreach materials from the organization’s store.
