Level 1 Instructor Courses

Leave No Trace Level 1 Instructor Course – Keystone Trails Association

Date & Time: August 1st – August 3rd, 2025

Course programming begins at 7:30 on August 1st. If staying on-site, please arrive no later than 5 pm to check into your accommodations

Course programming concludes at 4 pm on August 3rd.


Location: Based out of Olmsted Manor, Ludlow, PA, 16333. Most of the course will take place on the trails of Allegheny National Forest.


Course Description: Join The Keystone Trails Association for a weekend spent on the trails in and around the Allegheny National Forest for this Leave No Trace Level 1 Instructor Course. We will include hands-on instruction, a grounding in how to practice Leave No Trace principles as an individual, and the skills to teach Leave No Trace to a broader audience. This course relies on participants applying the skills they are learning and co-teaching lessons during the weekend. Attendance for the full weekend is required to receive certification.

Upon completion of the course, you will be equipped to:

  • Teach low-impact methods for recreating outside
  • Lead conversations on outdoor ethics and work with others to discern their outdoor ethics
  • Facilitate and provide certificates for Leave No Trace Awareness Workshops and Skills Courses as a Level One Instructor.
  • Co-Instruct Leave No Trace Level One Instructor Courses with a Level Two Instructor.

Pricing: 

  • KTA Members:
    • Before June 1: $250 Commuter; $350 with lodging and food
    • After June 1: $275 Commuter; $375 with lodging and food
  • KTA Volunteers:
    • Before June 1: $225 Commuter; $325 with lodging and food
    • After June 1: $250 Commuter; $350 with lodging and food
  • General Rate:
    • Before June 1: $275 Commuter; $375 with lodging and food
    • After June 1: $300 Commuter; $400 with lodging and food
