Minimize Single Use Items

Did You Know?

Plastic bottles take up to 450 years to decompose.

What Does This Mean?

In 2018, Americans created 292.4 million tons of trash equating to 4.9 pounds of trash per person per day. Of the total trash produced that year, 12.2% was plastic. Plastic not only pollutes the environment but it is dangerous to wildlife, degrades soil and water quality with chemicals and microplastics, its manufacturing and disposal emits greenhouse gasses, and it can negatively impact human health.

What Can You Do Right Now?

YOUR ACTIONS MATTER
  • Look for ways you can make sustainable swaps, reuse materials, or recycle to minimize the use of single-use items.
  • Dine-in at restaurants and coffee shops or bring reusable utensils, mugs, or containers for takeout.
  • Don’t be too hard on yourself – change can be difficult.
