What Inspires You to #optoutside?

Amelia Island, FL: We love playing outside and we’re guessing you do, too. For us, time spent outdoors is more fun, exhilarating and renewing than pretty much anything else we do. But sometimes we have to retreat from nature and get stuff done: going to work, attending meetings, shopping for groceries, cleaning our bathrooms. You know the drill. Yet sometimes even when we have the choice to go outside, we end up doing other things: watching Netflix, checking social media, watching YouTube videos of other people (or cute animals) doing cool things outside. In fact, just writing that sentence...

With the eating season, we mean, holiday season fast approaching, the Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers like to stay active, even while living on the road. Want the latest “Body by Bigfoot” workout routine? Check out this video! In all seriousness, road life keeps us on the move. Packing up and setting up camp every few days, getting our loaded cooler in and out of the car several times a day, water hauling, and just living outside means we move our bodies a lot. Traveling Trainer Tips: Shoulder Season Camping

Fayetteville, WV: Fall is gently tapping winter on the shoulder, ushering the new season into the eastern states. We had our first sub-freezing evening a few days ago, waking in the morning to a thin layer of ice on the car. Keeping warm under these conditions requires knowledge and some practice - and as Traveling Trainers sleep outdoors as many as 250 nights in a year, we've got both to spare. Here are our top three tips for making sure you stay warm when you're camping in late fall or early spring. 1. Layer Up Layering is important in these shoulder...

Lazy ENO Days of Fall

Roanoke, VA: We Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers are always on the move. Between events all over the nation and the travel time it takes to drive, we stay busy, and it's easy to let the days pass by while remaining deep in the throes of work. Still, when the weather is nice and we've cleared our schedules, we try to take a day to relax and reconnect with ourselves and the world around us. Spending a lazy afternoon with a book in our ENO Hammock is one of life's simple pleasures - and ENO has partnered with Leave No Trace on a Double Nest Hammock designed with our logo...

Vamping, Zombie Hiking and Creepy Doll Heads: A Leave No Trace Halloween

Grand Canyon National Park, AZ: The Traveling Trainers get lots of interesting questions as we travel and teach all over the country, but things can get bizarre around Halloween. Been dying to know what zombies should do with body parts that fall off in the backcountry? Check out the video below to get the inside scoop on monster outdoor ethics. 1. Vlad the Vampire sleeps in the daytime, but we can follow his lead by setting up our coffins, um, we mean, tents on durable surfaces like bare dirt, sand, rock, or snow. The best camp/coffin sites are found, NOT made. Vlad’s case is also a good...

Bigfoot's Morning Routine

Las Vegas, NV: We were lucky enough to catch our mascot, Bigfoot, one morning this fall in Nevada. How does this elusive creature manage to always Leave No Trace? Check out our footage of his morning routine, captured early one morning in the desert where he seemed to be enjoying a brilliant fall sunrise. Want to be like Bigfoot? Us too! Here are three things we do every morning to Leave No Trace like the big guy. Strain dishwater, throw away food scraps and dispose of our dishwater according to local regulations. Sometimes, campgrounds provide drains or special sinks for dishwater. Some...

The Best Camp Stove Pizza

Yosemite National Park, CA: The Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers love pizza almost as much as they love camping. Luckily, with just a camp stove, a pan, and a handful of ingredients, creating the perfect campsite pizza is a piece of cake (or pie)! Check out this video and start cooking! Did you know that how you cook and store your food when camping can be a matter of life or death for local wildlife? Animals that become accustomed to human food: Can become sick from eating food that's not a natural part of their diet. Can spread disease to each other, to pets and to humans...
