Small Trash, Big Impact!

Tucson, AZ - I reach for a nearby water bottle and sip slowly to wet my lips. I slip my hand into the side pocket of our tent and immediately find my head lamp . After 8 months living out of a tent and working on the road as a Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainer I know exactly where it is. Jenna and I have a system, no fumbling here. Still in my sleeping bag I snatch up my down jacket . I quickly and precisely slide it on and zip it up. The morning air is crisp, just the way I like it. I sit up while simultaneously kicking off my ultra cozy sleeping bag . I put on my pants, all the while...

The Hammock Life

Charleston, SC: After a busy day, how do you like to unwind? For some, the couch is a beckoning force, a place of solace and an opportunity to elevate ones feet. Life on the road as Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers offers adventure at every turn. A bit of relaxation is important to stay balanced though, so at the end of the day we opt out from the couch and trade it in for an ENO Hammock. Put up your feet and take a load off. Enjoy the sounds of nature, a great book, and a cozy place to enjoy a warm meal. Our ENO Hammock is a sacred place for rest and relaxation. Whether it’s strung...

Does a bear poop in the woods? Of course! But if you do, bury it or pack it out.

Guadalupe Mountains National Park, TX: This week we camped in the remote and gorgeous backcountry of the Guadalupe Mountains; fall was in the air, the leaves were vibrant colors, and we had starry nights. Unfortunately, we found human waste near our backcountry campsite in the park. We have seen far too many improper human waste disposal impacts as we travel around the country as Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers; from toilet paper flowers, poop with simply with a rock placed on top of it, to poop just off the side on the trail. The negative aesthetic issue alone is often too much, but...

Keeping Wildlife Wild

Cherokee, NC: Great Smoky Mountain National Park is home to some to some of the most impressive landscapes found in the eastern United States. Waterfalls, exposed rock cliffs, and mountains that seemingly go on forever. This area is home to more than 60 mammals including black bears, elk, white-tailed deer, and the elusive bobcat. Visiting any national park is a special experience, an experience worth protecting. It is our job as visitors to understand the ways to protect wildlife while we are in their natural habitats. By doing so, we can preserve the quality of the experience for future...
