Boy Scouts of America National Jamboree

Over 30,000 scouts, scout leaders, and community members will be attending the 2013 National Scout Jamboree this week in Glen Jean, West Virginia from July 15th-23rd. Leave No Trace is in attendance along with other outdoor ethics based organizations, land management agencies, and conservation departments from all over the United States. Do Sounds Matter in the Outdoors?

Beginning in the summer of 2011, members of the Colorado State University Park Studies Unit conducted research in Denali National Park and Preserve involving soundscapes. The Park Studies Unit has worked in many parks and protected areas to assist management with visitor use. Once every two to three years, over 8,000 members of the Boy Scouts of America descend on a college campus for the week-long National Order of the Arrow Conference, or NOAC . Telluride Teachings

Our 'How Green is Your Grass Campsite Challenge' with Planet Bluegrass at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival was an enormous success. We talked to literally hundreds of campers, and facilitated a contest where festival camps showcased their sustainability, creativity, and cleanliness. Prizes ranged from music CDs and DVDs to Leave No Trace memberships, Grub Hub portable kitchens, all the way up to the grand prize of tickets and camping passes to next years festival.
