No Trace of NOAC

Once every two to three years, over 8,000 members of the Boy Scouts of America descend on a college campus for the week-long National Order of the Arrow Conference, or NOAC . These Scouts are all members of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting's national honor society. While at NOAC, they participate in training, competitions, service projects, and fellowship events. Along with our trusty compatriot Bigfoot, the Leave No Trace e-tour team joined everyone at NOAC as they took over Michigan State University. We manned a booth at the Expo in Adventure Central, talking to thousands in a matter of...

Up a Creek in Austin

Joining with our educational partner the Student Conservation Association, or SCA, the Leave No Trace e-tour Team landed in Austin last Friday for a cleanup, some awareness workshops, and an overnight campout filled with s'mores and fellowship! Our day began on Waller Creek on the campus of the University of Texas-Austin, where we met up with some of SCA's national crew leaders, some participants from that weekend's Outdoor Nation Summit in Austin, and the office of Environmental Health and Safety at UT-Austin for a clean up event. After collecting trash ranging from cigarette butts to water-...

Honorary Cajuns

Down on the Bayou in the July heat, the Leave No Trace e-tour team joined up with Boy Scouts from across Southern Louisiana for a weekend full of Leave No Trace education, volunteer conservation work, campsongs, and tasty Cajun eating. The Evangaline Area Council organized a whole weekend dedicated to Leave No Trace where we held awareness workshops with adult Scouters, Boy Scouts, Webelos, and Cub Scouts. No matter their age group,6 all of the participants really dug into our cathole discussions. What's more fun to talk about with Boy Scouts than how to poop in the woods? Absolutely nothing...

Backyard Session July Update!

Through Backyard Sessions, the Center would like to engage existing networks of hardworking State Advocates, Master Educators, Trainers, members, and partners in critical outreach and volunteer efforts to ultimately get more people out on the trail in a responsible way. We realize that many supporters of Leave No Trace would like to become more involved in their communities, but have found volunteer opportunities to be lacking. Backyard Sessions ask engaged Leave No Trace supporters for assistance in two key ways: By attending existing, ongoing or upcoming events and offering a very...

Backyard Session Success in Indiana

Leave No Trace member, Kevin Ayers, put together a hugely successful Backyard Session in Indiana publicized asCommunity Day. This Backyard Session was held on Saturday March 31 at the Bryant Lake Shelter House in Morgan-Monroe State Forest. The goal of the day was to teach people about Leave No Trace while giving back to the area with service projects. “A lot of people want to do the right thing, but they don’t always know how,” said Kevin, “Leave No Trace gives them the opportunity to learn how to treat the wilderness.” Expecting around thirty people, Kevin was blown away by the staggering...

Chicago Backyard Session with Grand Trunk!

On Wednesday, the Leave No Trace e-tour Team got to head to Chicago where we met up with Grand Trunk! They're an awesome partner of the Center and provide us with some great support throughout the year. Along with our good friend Bigfoot, we headed out to North Avenue Beach in Chicago for a Backyard Session where together with them and some volunteers we helped clean-up a popular spot in the city. As summer is just starting, getting the beach ready for everyone to enjoy was an awesome adventure! We also got to share some awareness with people at the beach that afternoon and get to know one of...
