Leave No Trace member, Kevin Ayers, put together a hugely successful Backyard Session in Indiana publicized asCommunity Day. This Backyard Session was held on Saturday March 31 at the Bryant Lake Shelter House in Morgan-Monroe State Forest. On Wednesday, the Leave No Trace e-tour Team got to head to Chicago where we met up with Grand Trunk! They're an awesome partner of the Center and provide us with some great support throughout the year. The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics to work with local volunteers and partners to provide critical education and clean-up North Avenue Beach. In an area once dominated by mine pits, the Leave No Trace e-tour team visited with an inspired and inspiring group of high school students to talk about Leave No Trace, protecting the outdoors, and really making an impact in your community. In 2011 the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics introduced a new social activism and environmental stewardship campaign called Backyard Sessions. Backyard Sessions take many forms, but most of all they bring together and activate local communities to incorporate Leave No Trace into all of the ways we live and play. The Center has been working closely with various organizations to implement Backyard Sessions into existing service projects across the country. In the last year, the Center has initiated a new focus of incorporating Leave No Trace education into volunteer community-service projects. In 2011, Leave No Trace educators and volunteers facilitated 23 such projects resulting in almost 8000 man hours of trail work, invasive species removal, and clean-ups. In 2012, the Center's target is 65 such "Backyard Sessions" and we are happy to announce that we're well on our way to hitting that goal with 12 such events already scheduled.
