Saturday, September 12, 2026 marks 11 years of one of our favorite partnerships: the Backcountry Tap Room, hosted with our friends at Upslope Brewing.
Here’s how it works. Upslope sets up a makeshift tap room in a remote spot and debuts a brand new beer you can’t get anywhere else. To get there, you hike. This year’s location is new: Winter Park Resort’s Wild Spur, at 12,060 feet.
Every ticket sold supports our education programs like Leave No Trace 101, giving people the skills and knowledge to protect the places they love to explore.
The Beer
Upslope is debuting a brand new release for 2026 (name still TBD), available only at the top of the mountain. If you want the first taste, this is the only way to get it.
The Hike
Your ticket includes a gondola ride to the top. From there, it’s about 3 miles round trip to the tap room and back via the Lower Roof of the Rockies Trail. Want more mileage? Add the Fantasy Meadows Loop and make it roughly 5.2 miles.
There’s no vehicle access and no walk-up option — the gondola is the only way up for every guest.
Before You Head Up
- Bring a valid photo ID and your ticket, either printed or as a screenshot (wi-fi at check-in can be spotty)
- Dress in layers with a rain shell — mountain weather changes fast
- The trail includes narrow, rooty, rocky sections and isn’t stroller-friendly
- No overnight camping; the event wraps at 5:00 pm
- No smoking — the fire danger is real
- Dogs are welcome on leash — pack out what they leave behind
- Watch for wildlife and give it space
- No outside alcohol. Drinking is limited to the designated event area around the Backcountry Tap Room bar, not the trails
- No refunds. The event happens rain, snow, or shine, so come prepared for anything
- If lightning or storms move in, the event may pause or shut down and guests will be asked to head down the mountain
- Restrooms on site are limited portable units — Wild Spur has no indoor facilities
