Tourism provides an excellent framework to teach and share Leave No Trace and to expand its sphere of influence. Working with state and regional tourism offices provides unique opportunities to expose outdoor visitors to Leave No Trace first in the planning phase of their visits and at specific touch-points all along the way.
Colorado Tourism Office and Leave No Trace Partnership
In 2017, Colorado’s Tourism Office became the first state in the nation to partner with Leave No Trace. Through the use of Colorado-tailored Leave No Trace educational messages, a Are You Colorado Ready campaign about Leave No Trace and targeted partnerships with groups such as Colorado Association of Destination Marketing Organizations, Colorado Dude and Guest Ranch Association, Colorado Hotel and Lodging Association and Colorado River Outfitters Association, this unique partnership aims to help influence traveler behavior by putting Leave No Trace messages in front of travelers before they arrive at their destinations.
