Opt to Act with Leave No Trace/REI Fall Cleanup Events

This year when we #OptOutside, we Opt to Act.

In the fall of 2019, Leave No Trace and REI are teaming with local partners to create large-scale cleanup events. Each of the eight featured events will host 100+ volunteers — we’ll work together to remove litter, restore natural qualities and learn essential skills for protecting the environment.

The Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers will be on hand at these events, teaching Leave No Trace skills and conducting free raffles for attendees with great outdoor gear provided by REI.

We hope you’ll join us! See below for event details, and come back to this page soon as more information gets added.

  • Please wear comfortable clothes, closed-toed shoes and sunscreen. All volunteers (individuals as well as groups) are welcome to participate and must sign this liability waiver.Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present at the beginning of the cleanup to sign a liability waiver before the minor can participate.
  • Registration is not required unless a group is larger than 20 people – to register please contact beachcleanups@surfridersd.org.

During the cleanup, please be prepared to fill out a data card detailing the types of trash that you collected, and make sure to have your trash weighed when you return to the registration table at the end of the cleanup. Preview our data card here.
