Teen Leave No Trace Trainer Course

Cost: $75 for a Mountaineers member, $125 for a non-member

Who: For high school students only! Offered for youth ages 13-17.

Description: This course is adapted specifically for youth leaders. From bear hangs to blue bags - learn about techniques to lighten your recreational footprint and gain skills for teaching others the principles of low-impact recreation during The Mountaineers Leave No Trace Teen Trainer course. Together, participants explore science-based research about recommended best practices and discuss the spectrum of personal comfort levels, ethics and philosophies that determine how individuals make choices for how to recreate in the backcountry.

The Leave No Trace Teen Trainer course follows curriculum established by The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics and covers the principles, mission, and ethics of Leave No Trace as well as information about the Trainer's role and techniques for educating others.

This course begins at The Mountaineers Program Center in Seattle and includes an overnight backpacking trip in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. Transportation to and from Alpine Lakes Wilderness is included in the price.

Gear: Bring your personal camping gear. Dinner will be provided but participants will be expected to their own snacks, lunch and breakfast.
