Event Street Address:

The Cossatot River State Park-Natural Area is experiencing severe impacts from outdoor activities and is one of twenty Leave No Trace Hot Spots in 2018.

This park in Southwest Arkansas is renowned for its scenic beauty and encompasses 12 miles of National Wild and Scenic River, outstanding geological features, cascading water, the dramatic Cossatot Falls, and Class III, IV and V rapids. It is a popular destination for hikers, campers, skilled canoeists, rafters, and kayakers as well as a summer destination for swimming, fishing, snorkeling, and tubing. Severe impacts from recreation include water resource impacts, campfire scars, tree damage, human waste, litter, vandalism and the use of undesignated/visitor created trails.

As a Leave No Trace Hot Spot, the park will receive a week of targeted training, education programs and service work with agency staff, key stakeholders, and members of the local community. The overall goals are the long-term improvement of resource conditions, increased awareness of impacts in the park, elevated Leave No Trace presence within agency management plans, and increased use of Leave No Trace skills and ethics by the visiting public.
