Level 2 Instructor Courses

Leave No Trace Master Educator Course – American Alpine Institute

Date: April 24th – 28th, 2023

Course Description: Every time we step into the backcountry we have an impact. We walk on terrain that may be changed by our method of travel. We build our campsites in fragile alpine environments, cook food that entices wild animals, and manage our own waste. The Leave No Trace Master Educator program was designed to help you mitigate these impacts and to teach others how to do the same.

This course provides participants with extensive training in Leave No Trace skills and ethics, as well as outdoor education and teaching skills in an outdoor classroom setting. Those who successfully complete the course will have the skills to provide Leave No Trace educational programming to their own student participants. This is an essential course for those who work extensively in the outdoors as teachers, volunteers, rangers, instructors and guides.

This season we are offering our classic AAI Leave No Trace Master Educator backpacking course. The first day of this program begins in a classroom, introducing the course and schedule, providing in-depth information on the overall Leave No Trace program, reviewing gear and packing. The remaining days are spent in the field on a backcountry trip, putting the principles of Leave No Trace into practice.
