Let's Go Camping

Estacada, OR.  Have you ever wanted to go camping, but never had the opportunity or not sure if you want to invest money into a tent, sleeping gear, and other equipment?  Well, Oregon Parks and Recreation has the solution for you!

Families from across the state of Oregon are partaking in a wonderful event called Let's Go Camping.  Sponsored by REI, The North Face Explore Your Parks, and Oregon State Parks, Let's Go Camping provides a safe environment for families to come and learn what it takes to spend an evening under the stars.  We joined 10 families at Milo McIver State Park, about 45 minutes outside of Portland, as they learned the basics of camping and hiking, outdoor cooking skills, locally specific information about the park, including the Salmon Hatchery on-site, and how to be stewards of the park by practicing Leave No Trace.  Included in the fees for the weekend are camping sites and park entry, all of the sleeping equipment needed, such as a tent, sleeping pad and sleeping bag, quality instruction, and delicious dutch oven buscuits and cinnamon rolls for breakfast!  Yum!

Although summer is beginning to wind down, there is still plenty of time to go camping. Next weekend is the last weekend for this event, so if you are interested in learning more about the Let's Go Camping event, click here.  Otherwise, fall is a beautiful time of year to bring your family outdoors.  Happy Camping!
