#GivingTuesday - 5 Reasons Why You Should Support Leave No Trace

San Francisco, CA: This #GivingTuesday, we reflect on why Leave No Trace is so important. As Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers, we have had the opportunity to visit some of the country’s most pristine natural treasures. From cool, clear mountain streams to arid, resilient desert landscapes, spending time in our public lands inspires a deep sense of connection, humility and stewardship in us.

Protecting these special places is more important than ever. As we travel and camp across the country, we’ve witnessed the tragic consequences that result from uninformed visitors. We have seen abandoned fires left burning in pits choked with trash, sensitive plants and soils destroyed by people walking off trail, wild animals become aggressive due to feeding from well-intentioned picnickers, and the scars of vandalism change our historical sites forever. Without Leave No Trace education, we risk loving our favorite places to death and losing them forever. Our mission is more important than ever!

This year boasted record numbers of people getting outside. Some areas are seeing as much as a 500 percent increase in visitation, without increased staff or financial support. Land managers, rangers, and park stewards are desperate for help to protect these special places. Leave No Trace education is a pro-active and positive solution that mitigates negative impacts before they become a problem.
