Forever Green Girl Scouts

Pine Grove, PA.  In celebration of the 100th year of Girl Scouts, the Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania hosted a day of Leave No Trace education and fun on Sunday April 29th, 2012.  With about 200 scouts, parents, and troop leaders in attendance, the Sweet Arrow Lake Park was buzzing with energy and leave no trace activities.  The scouts visited 12 stations throughout the day including a Leave No Trace hike, a relay race in properly packing a backpack, knot tying, geocaching, the "Wall of Shame" where scouts learned the importance of leaving what they find, and durable surface identification station.  A highlight of the day was when Bigfoot came out of the woods to join in a few camp songs during the closing ceremony.  Bigfoot definitely has some pretty sweet dance moves!

The Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania were the recipients of the Packing with PEAK grant last year and utilized all of the education materials they received through the grant to develop this full day event.  We applaud the work of Genavieve Moyer and Joelle Bretz for organizing an amazing event!  Their dedication to bring dynamic and educational programs to their girls is inspiring.  Thank you for having us at the event and keep up the good work as you teach the girls to be active stewards of our public lands.
