TJ grew up less than a mile from Castlewood State Park outside of St. Louis, Missouri, where she spent countless hours hiking, mountain biking, and swimming. At Southeast Missouri State University, TJ’s passion for the outdoors was amplified during her undergraduate work in Recreation with an emphasis in Outdoor Adventure Leadership. Then, at the University of Idaho she received her Master’s Degree in Movement and Leisure Sciences with an emphasis in Leadership in Physical Activity and Recreation. Throughout college and after graduation TJ has worked in Wilderness Therapy, and for the University of Idaho Outdoor Program, becoming a Leave No Trace Trainer in 2005. TJ enjoys spending her time going on adventures with Pat which includes rock climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, and backpacking.
Pat grew up canoeing, hiking, and exploring with the Scouts, and it was during this time in Scouting he came to understand how important being outside is to him. In college, Pat chose to major in Recreation with an emphasis in the outdoors at Southeast Missouri State University. Since college, Pat taught and facilitated activities at environmental education centers in North Carolina and in Idaho, guided for wilderness therapy programs in both Georgia and Utah, and finished his Masters in Recreation Resource Administration at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. While Pat was studying at SIUC he finished his Leave No Trace Master Educator Course and got involved in Wilderness Education Association courses. Pat spends his time outside of work with TJ going rock climbing, backpacking, whitewater rafting/ kayaking, and mountain biking. Pat feels very lucky to get to teach Leave No Trace with TJ as our 2012 Traveling Trainer Team.
