Meet Team East Central - Amanda and Junaid!

Amanda Jameson

While Amanda spent a lot of time outside as a youngster in Ohio, her passion for the outdoors was sparked by a move to Colorado, where she learned about the existence of long-distance hiking trails. Amanda thru-hiked the 485-mile Colorado Trail in 2015, the 2650-mile Pacific Crest Trail in 2016, and has written about her experiences both for Backpacker Magazine and on her personal blog, Brown Girl on the (P)CT. She has a B.A. in Anthropology and English from Vassar, and an M.Sc. in Migration Studies from Oxford. This year as a Traveling Trainer, Amanda is excited to combine her love of the outdoors, her years of teaching experience, and her passion for outdoor education.

Junaid Dawud

Junaid grew up in the Pacific Northwest, where he gained a deep appreciation for the great outdoors during camping trips with his family. After earning a degree in Geology & Geophysics from the University of Hawai'i, he fell in love with long distance backpacking on the Pacific Crest Trail. Since then, he has hiked nearly 8000 miles, pioneered a walking route connecting all of Colorado's 14,000-foot peaks, and worked as a tour guide in the southwest desert. His passion for time spent outdoors drives his desire to help others learn how to enjoy the outdoors in responsible ways. He is very excited to be spending the year sharing the Leave No Trace message!
