The Trainer Course is a vital component of the nationwide Leave No Trace program. It is a shortened version of the Master course. Participants receive introductory training in Leave No Trace skills and ethics in a condensed two-day format. The Trainer Course assists the student participants in learning more about the seven principles of Leave No Trace and techniques for disseminating these low impact skills.
Trainer courses are designed for educators, guides, agency employees, and other outdoor professionals. Successful graduates of the Trainer Course gain the skills to teach Leave No Trace techniques and ethics to their clients, friends and family. Participants learn the concepts of Leave No Trace and prepare to teach Leave No Trace curriculum in a variety of settings-schools, camps, parks, wilderness and front country areas. When: June 7-8, 2008 (Sat-Sun)
Where: Black Rock Desert, Nevada. Nearest town Gerlach, Nevada. We
will meet in Gerlach at 9am.
Cost: No cost for course but must supply own transportation, food and gear.
Who: Participants specifically interested in Leave No Trace within
the scope of the Burning Man event. The course will also emphasize
LNT as it pertains to backpacking in the desert environment.
Description: This Leave no Trace Trainer Course is an Earth Guardian annual camping event. If you are interested in learning more about why Burning Man is the largest Leave No Trace event in the world and how you can help contribute by teaching Leave No Trace, this is the trip for you. We will also discuss ways to green Burning Man with past participants who come each year to reconnect and reinvigorate.
If you attend, you will be a Leave No Trace Trainer, meet other
active Burners, see a part of the Black Rock Desert you probably
haven’t seen before and have FUN at the same time. Creativity in your
presentation is greatly encouraged.
This trip involves carrying all your H2O, food and gear in a backpack
for approximately 1/2-1 mile to a wilderness campsite. You will be
teaching Leave No Trace as it pertains specifically to the Burning
Man event as will as to backpacking in the desert environment.
Please, sign up for the course only when you are sure that you will
attend. This will help coordinate the assignments given to the
participants for the seven principles of Leave No Trace. One of the seven principles will be presented by each of you.
On completion of this class you will receive a certificate of completion as a Leave No Trace trainer from the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics in Boulder, CO. Your mission, upon completion, will be to teach your fellow residents of Black Rock City how to Leave No Trace and green their Burn as well as spreading Leave No Trace ethics throughout your community and beyond. Registration will closeon May 15.
Gear: At least one gallon of water (8 pounds). We will have additional
water on hand. Tent, sleeping bag, and backpack to carry gear.
Clothes and hiking boots that are desert appropriate. Temperatures
may be as high as 80 degrees during the day and reach below freezing
at night. Headlamp, food for two days. cooking gear. Leave No Trace principle presentation materials. Don’t forget, even though the distance to the camp is short you still must carry all your stuff in and out.

Description: The Potomac Appalachian Trail Club’s Trail Patrol is offering this two-day, low-mileage backpacking format course with an additional pre-outing evening classroom session designed to enhance your understanding of Leave No Trace practices and ethics and to increase your level of expertise and confidence in teaching Leave No Trace skills. Through focused activities, hands-on field experience and both formal and informal discussions, you will be introduced to concepts and methods that will advance your knowledge of Leave No Trace issues, expand your repertoire of low-impact skills and increase your effectiveness in teaching these important skills to others. Participants should be experienced campers or backpackers. Instruction will concentrate on the incorporation of low impact techniques in camping and backpacking settings, but we will not be teaching basic camping skills. This is a fun course where all participants have a part in demonstrating the choices that can be made to minimize our impact on the land and our resources.
On completion of this course, participants will be registered as Leave No Trace Trainers with the national Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics and will receive a certificate of course completion as well as their Leave No Trace Trainer lapel pin.
Gear: Personal backpacking gear. All group gear, such as stoves, cooking equipment and water treatment will be supplied. Participants should pack a trail lunch for Saturday and Sunday; all other meals will be provided. At the time of registration participants will receive a planning packet that will include a detailed packing list.

Description: You will learn to demonstrate and teach state of the art minimum impact techniques and outdoor ethics to Scout troops, family, friends, and other community groups. Upon completion, you will receive a national LNT Trainer’s Certificate, LNT pin, patch, printed materials, and lots of ideas for teaching Leave No Trace Principles and Outdoor Ethics.
Gear: Camping gear: sleeping bag, tent, clothing, and personal gear (in a backpack if possible) as if you were on a two-day backpacking trip. Please bring a place setting, cup, and utensils. Check weather reports and be prepared for Mount Hood weather.

Description: A lively course in a beautiful setting! This is a one unit (credit or no credit) Columbia College short course held at historic and
rustic Baker Station between the Carson Iceberg and Emigrant Wilderness Areas in California's High Sierra (see: www.highsierrainstitute.org). The Trainer Course teaches participants the latest minimum impact skills and effective techniques for passing on good land ethics to their clients. This class is aimed at outdoor recreation professionals and volunteers (land management agency employees, youth group leaders, outfitters and guides, teachers, etc.) and leads to a Trainer Certificate from Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics.

Cost: The cost is $75 per participant which covers all training materials including a copy of the reference book, Soft Paths, meals for the weekend, group equipment, and camping fees.
Description: We will spend the weekend in our outdoor classroom hiking, camping, and learning to apply and teach the Leave No Trace principles in both frontcountry and backcountry settings.
This is an excellent opportunity to work with two trainers who are not only Leave No Trace Master Educators but who also have many years of experience in adult and youth education in the out-of-doors. Various teaching methods will be utilized throughout the training so you can gain confidence in planning workshops to share Leave No Trace with adults and children in a variety of settings. Because this is a training to prepare you to teach others, you will be asked to select a Leave No Trace principle to teach the group in a 10-15 minute lesson. Upon the completion of this trainer course you will be registered as a trainer with the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics and will receive a certificate of completion and a trainer pin.
Gear: You will need to bring personal gear for day hiking and overnight camping (clothing appropriate for the weather, sleeping bag & pad, mess kit, water bottle, etc.). Tents, stoves and other group gear will be supplied by trainers.

Where: Friday 7:00-9:00 pm at Brevard Rock Gym for an informational and planning session; Saturday and Sunday in Pisgah National Forest. On Sunday the course will conclude at 4:00 p.m.
Who: Individuals with some camping and/or backpacking experience.
Cost: $65.00. The cost covers course materials and meals with the exception of lunch for Saturday and Sunday, which the participant should bring.
Description: This course is set up to inform and inspire the outdoor enthusiasts on the principals and ethical decisions needed to enjoys the outdoors in a manner that leaves minimal human impact on our natural environment. Participants will be instructed on the 7 principles of Leave No Trace, as well as given an opportunity to practice teaching one of these principals to their peers. The weekend time frame allows ample time for experiential teaching methods, discussions and question. Upon completion of this course participants will be Leave No Trace Trainers. Trainers are prepared to facilitate Leave no Trace awareness workshops.

Who: Anyone involved in the outdoors: formal and informal educators, agency staff, and recreationists alike will benefit from this course.
Description: This course will stress experiential learning and how Leave No Trace principles and ethics apply to desert and canyon ecosystems. This course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to follow Leave No Trace ethics and principles, as well as provide participants with educational tools and resources in order to help teach the Leave No Trace message to others. Upon completion of the course participants will be considered Leave No Trace Trainers at the national level with the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics.
This course is a two-day, one-night backpacking course held in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. We will be spending the entirety of the trip hiking the maintained trail that follows Rebel Creek in the Santa Rosa Range. We will be hiking up to ten miles over two days with a 2,000 ft. elevation change. The trail meets up with the summit trail allowing for fantastic views of Santa Rosa Peak, Paradise Valley, and well beyond. The large shaded aspen stands and dense vegetation surrounding Rebel Creek will provide the perfect conditions for a summer backpacking trip. We can expect to be met by pleasant temperatures with highs in the 90s and lows in the 50s.

Who: Course is open to all Boy Scouts age 18 & older with backpacking experience.
Description: This course will provide participants with hands on experience in teaching Leave No Trace skills and ethics. The Trainer course is a vital component of the national Leave No Trace program. The participants will receive Leave No Trace training in a two-day format that includes a backpacking overnight. The Trainer Course will assist the participants in learning more about the seven principles of Leave No Trace and techniques for teaching these low impact skills to others. Each participant will teach one Leave No Trace principle at the Trainer Course. Upon successful completion of the Leave No Trace Trainer course each participant will become a Leave No Trace Trainer.
Those who complete the course are equipped to:
• Understand, demonstrate, and teach minimum impact techniques to friends, family, their sponsoring organization, and other community groups;
• Facilitate Awareness Workshops;
• Lead a discussion on outdoor ethics and help others explore their own personal outdoor ethic.

Where: White Oak Cabin, Shenandoah National Park, VA
Who: Adults (18+). This course takes place in and around the White Oak Cabin. All outdoor activities are conducted on the grounds in the immediate vicinity of the cabin. There is no backpacking or other strenuous activity. Student have the option to stay overnight in the cabin facilities or pitch a tent outside.

Description: This program promotes skills and ethics to support the sustainable use of wildlands and natural areas. After completing this course you will become a Leave No Trace Trainer and will receive a certificated from the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics in Boulder, CO.

Who: Any individual interested in learning Leave No Trace skills and teaching them to others. Open to Scouters and the public.
Cost: $50.00 per individual. Cost includes instruction, handouts, training materials, Trainer lapel pin, patch, extensive educational support, and a comprehensive supply package to conduct your own Leave No Trace Awareness courses.
Description: This course will prepare individuals to act as Leave No Trace-recognized Trainers. This training is co-sponsored by the Lincoln Heritage Council, Boy Scouts of America and Green Earth Outdoors and will be led by a LNT Master Educator Douglas Wagoner, who has extensive experience in the theory and practice of the LNT principles. We will use the beautiful Harry S. Frazier Jr. Scout Reservation as an outdoor classroom. The training includes 16 hours of instruction and overnight camping onsite. As part of the Trainer Course curriculum, participants will be required to lead a 10-15 minute discussion or presentation on one of the Leave No Trace principles or other impact topic. Further details will be provided upon registration.
Gear: Participants will be required to bring their own camping equipment/food and cook using a small stove. If you don’t have your own stove, several small backpacking stoves will be available for use. Other equipment available upon request.
