The Trainer Course is a vital component of the nationwide Leave No Trace program. It is a shortened version of the Master course. Participants receive introductory training in Leave No Trace skills and ethics in a condensed two-day format. The Trainer Course assists the student participants in learning more about the seven principles of Leave No Trace and techniques for disseminating these low impact skills.
Trainer courses are designed for educators, guides, agency employees, and other outdoor professionals. Successful graduates of the Trainer Course gain the skills to teach Leave No Trace techniques and ethics to their clients, friends and family. Participants learn the concepts of Leave No Trace and prepare to teach Leave No Trace curriculum in a variety of settings-schools, camps, parks, wilderness and front country areas. EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY: All Master Educators are now required to have every Trainer Course participant sign the new Trainer Course Release Form. Description: This course will prepare individuals to act as Leave No Trace-recognized Trainers. This training is co-sponsored by the Lincoln Heritage Council, Boy Scouts of America and Green Earth Outdoors and will be led by a LNT Master Educator Douglas Wagoner, who has extensive experience in the theory and practice of the LNT principles. We will use the beautiful Harry S. Frazier Jr. Scout Reservation as an outdoor classroom. The training includes 16 hours of instruction and overnight camping onsite. As part of the Trainer Course curriculum, participants will be required to lead a 10-15 minute discussion or presentation on one of the Leave No Trace principles or other impact topic. Further details will be provided upon registration.
Gear: Participants will be required to bring their own camping equipment/food and cook using a small stove. If you don’t have your own stove, several small backpacking stoves will be available for use. Other equipment available upon request.

When/Where: Saturday, November 15, 8:30 a.m. to Sunday, November 16, 2008 at noon. Cabin camping at Camp Pokanoka in Ottawa, IL.
Who: This trainer course is for adults and teens wishing to become qualified to teach the principles of Leave No Trace outdoor ethics to others.
Cost: The cost is $75 per participant which covers all training materials including a copy of the reference book Soft Paths, meals for the weekend, group equipment and camping fees.
Description: We will spend the weekend in our outdoor classroom learning to apply and teach the Leave No Trace principles in both frontcountry and backcountry settings. This is an excellent opportunity to work with two trainers who are not only Leave No Trace Master Educators, but who also have many years of experience in adult and youth education in the out-of-doors. Various teaching methods will be utilized throughout the training so you can gain confidence in planning workshops to share Leave No Trace with adults and children in a variety of settings. Because this is a training to prepare you to teach others, you will be asked to select a Leave No Trace principle to teach the group in a 10-15 minute lesson. Upon the completion of this trainer course you will be registered as a trainer with the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics and will receive a certificate of completion and a trainer pin.
Gear: You will need to bring personal gear for overnight cabin camping, clothing appropriate for outdoor weather day or evening, mess kit or dishes for meals, mug for beverages, water bottle. Stoves and other group gear will be supplied by trainers.

Description: The Trainer Course is designed to teach you Leave No Trace principles and enable you to communicate them to others. This course is ideal for those working with youth-serving agencies and is open to adults and teens, 15 and older. Participants will be able to lead a discussion on outdoor ethics, help others to explore their personal outdoor beliefs and use that information in working with other adults and children.

Where: Clair Tappaan Lodge is a rustic mountain lodge nestled in the Sierra Nevada range of California at the top of Donner Pass. It's 45 minutes west of Reno and one and a half hours drive east of Sacramento just off of Interstate 80. The address is 19940 Donner Pass Road in Norden.
Cost: No course fee! Participants must provide own transportation, gear, and cover the price of accommodation at the lodge ($55 per person/per night). Meals are included in the cost of lodging.
Who: Anyone involved in the outdoors: formal and informal educators, agency staff, and recreationists alike will benefit from this course Why take this course?: This course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to follow Leave No Trace ethics and principles, as well as provide participants with educational tools and resources to help teach the Leave No Trace message to others. Upon completion of the course participants will be considered Leave No Trace Trainers at the national level with the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics.
Description: Days will be spent on snowshoes hiking in the Donner summit area and learning about the seven principles of LNT. At night we will be taking a break from the cold indoors at Clair Tappaan Lodge. For more information about the lodge please see their website at: www.ctl.sierraclub.org. This area receives the highest average snowfall of the entire Sierra Nevada range, making the Lodge a perfect base for a winter course. Participants should be ready to learn in an outdoor classroom, and to have fun exploring a beautiful area!
Gear: Meals will be included Friday dinner through Sunday lunch. Breakfast and dinner will consist of a hearty homemade meal prepared by professional chefs, while lunch will be a healthy sack lunch. You will need to bring a sleeping bag, towel and toiletries for use at the lodge. We will be using snowshoes Saturday and Sunday during the course. Snowshoes can be rented from the lodge for $11 a day. We will be spending the entirety of Saturday outdoors in the snow, so please pack accordingly! Warm layers, wool socks, snow jackets, snow pants, waterproof gloves, winter boots, hat, and scarves are recommended.

Description: We meet at a less popular trailhead at noon Friday, backpack in about a mile on a steep uphill trail to set up camp. We learn as we hike, camp and explore from an unbelievable viewpoint. We’ll hike out at the end of the day Saturday. People need to bring all their own food and equipment for overnight. We’ll supply free entry to Yosemite NP, our wilderness permit and a bear-proof food canister. We have free frontcountry campsites set aside for before and after the course on Thursday and Saturday nights in Yosemite Valley.
Gear: Early April should be mild, but we’ll be at about 4500’, so there could be snow, rain or dry heat. Bring shelter and layers to be prepared for anything. There are trailhead bear boxes for any excess food.
Instructor: Pete Devine was Yosemite’s first LNT Master Educator and has taught on the park’s trails for twenty years. He’s an accomplished backpacker, naturalist and teacher.

Most personal equipment such as tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, backpacks, and cooking gear is available for rent at a 25% discount if you don’t already have it. Who: This trainer course is for adults and teens 16 and older wishing to become qualified to teach the principles of Leave No Trace outdoor ethics to others. Space is limited.
Cost: The cost is $65 per participant which covers all training materials and handouts, Meals from Saturday Breakfast through Sunday Lunch, transportation to and from Camp Perkins to trailhead, group gear, and some personal gear to borrow. Participants are also welcome to stay at Camp Perkins in one of our cabins Friday night, June 26th at no extra charge.
Description: This Leave No Trace course is offered by Camp Perkins. Students will arrive by Saturday morning for an orientation and gear packing, living out Plan Ahead and Prepare. On Saturday morning, after breakfast and brief introduction to Leave No Trace, the course will travel 15 minutes to a trailhead into the Sawtooth National Recreation Area for a one night backpacking trip. On the backpacking section, you will learn by doing, presenting selected Leave No Trace topics, which will be critiqued by the group. Students will each do one presentation on a topic of their choosing during the course and also receive training on teaching techniques. This is an excellent opportunity to work with the staff who are not only Leave No Trace Master Educators but who also have many years of experience in adult and youth education in the out-of-doors! Upon the completion of this trainer course you will be registered as a trainer with the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics and will receive a certificate of completion and a trainer pin.
Gear: You will need to bring personal gear for an overnight backpacking trip (clothing appropriate for the weather, pack, sleeping bag & pad, mess kit, water bottle, etc.). Tents, stoves and other group gear will be provided by Camp Perkins. A limited number of sleeping bags, sleeping pads, and backpacks will be available for use at no charge. Description: The Leave No Trace Trainer Course is part of Call of the Wild's "Women in Wilderness Leadership Program". This program is designed for anyone contemplating a career in outdoor recreation or for outdoor enthusiasts looking to further develop their outdoor skills. It will prepare individuals to act as Leave No Trace-recognized Trainers. In addition, it will cover map reading, route finding, accident prevention, group dynamics, outdoor leadership, and backcountry cooking. As part of the Trainer Course curriculum, participants will be required to lead a 20 minute discussion or presentation on one of the Leave No Trace principles or other impact topic.
