Hot Spot Happenings

Fourmile, Buena Vista, CO:

Yesterday we spent a beautiful Rocky Mountains morning with the sixth graders of Buena Vista, CO.  For those in the know, the Leave No Trace Hot Spots program along with Friends of Fourmile have joined forces to bring trainings and awareness concerning the responsible use of the Fourmile area.

Our stint with the youth here provided them with the tools to help care for themselves and the environment while playing outside.  We talked extensively about traveling and camping on durable surfaces. Way up in the mountains at nearly 8000ft where this community is nestled the growing season is short and the plants have less  time to recover from damage (if at all).  They understand that good campsites are found and not made. This being especially important where dispersed camping is allowed and the choice is up to the user to responsibly occupy an existing site, and refrain from creating a new one.

We'll be back here at Fourmile for a bustleing Memorial Day weekend providing outreach, awareness, and some BBQ eats midday Saturday.  If you're in the area we'd love to see you! We will be having an open house just north of the intersection of the Lenhardy Cut-Off and McGee Gulch.

Recreate your recreation.
