Griff Danheim, Houston, TX State Advocate
I live in Houston, Texas. I hope to raise the awareness of Leave No Trace in my state by coordinating efforts with federal, state, county and municipal groups to develop long term plans, programs and assist with employee/volunteer training. The ranks of trained LNT resources in the state are growing and I am working to ensure that everyone is aware of opportunities to provide outreach. Currently I am working with Texas Parks and Wildlife to coordinate training for their new Outdoor Family program which teaches families new to the outdoors and camping the proper methods of enjoying out great outdoors. We attend the Texas Parks and Wildlife EXPO annually and enjoy exposure to thousands of people interested in the outdoors and the Leave No Trace Principles.

Who: This trainer course is for adults and teens wishing to become qualified to teach the principles of Leave No Trace outdoor ethics to adults and children. This event requires a minimum of 4 or a maximum of 8 participants.
Cost: The cost is $179 per adult participant, $129 per youth participant (Every 2 teen participants must be accompanied by at least one fully participating adult.)Fee covers training materials, camping fees, meals for the weekend, and group equipment. Boat rentals are available.
Description: Get ready to lead others into the world of Leave No Trace; become an LNT Trainer. This weekend outdoor learning adventure will prepare you to plan and deliver Awareness Workshops and to work with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and community groups.
We will begin on Friday evening with a front country experience at Caddo Lake State Park campground to stage our backcountry voyage. No previous paddling proficiency is required; we will learn fundamental paddling and safety skills to prepare for boat based backcountry camping. On Saturday morning each person may chose to kayak or canoe to our weekend training site where we will apply and teach the Leave No Trace principles. You will work with two or more Master Educators and ACA certified paddling instructors experienced in Leave No Trace and adult and youth outdoor education. Through a variety of teaching methods you will gain confidence in planning workshops to share Leave No Trace with adults and children in a variety of settings. Because this is a training to prepare you to teach others, you will be asked to select a Leave No Trace principle to teach the group in a 10-15 minute lesson.
After registering you will receive a course guide and a gear list. Upon the completion of this trainer course you will be registered as a trainer with the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics and will receive a certificate of completion and a trainer pin.
Gear: You will need to bring personal gear for paddling and overnight camping. A gear list will be sent to you after registration. Provide your own kayak or canoe or rent a boat from us for $30. We have some tents and sleeping pads available to borrow if you do not have your own.
