Lisa Deavers, Lexington, KY State Advocate

Statement of Purpose

Having worked with community parks and KY State Parks, one of my goals is to educate as many people as possible on how to minimize impacts on our natural resources. Also, through the partnerships I have developed with other agencies across the state, I hope to expand that partnership to include promoting LNT within their organizations. I am on the board of the Kentucky Recreation Park Society (KRPS) and have been promoting LNT through their annual conferences as well as through weekly programming and special events here at Barren River Lake State Park. I am proud to serve as State Advocate and want everyone to know I am here to assist you in spreading the message about Leave No Trace.

Description: This course will allow participants to learn and practice in an outdoor setting the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace and prepare individuals to act as Leave No Trace-recognized Trainers from Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics. We will use the beautiful Harry S. Frazier Jr. Scout Reservation (Hiking courses) and Hoosier National Forest (Canoeing course) as an outdoor classroom. The training includes 16 hours of instruction and overnight camping onsite. The first night camping (Friday) will be conducted in a front-country setting and the second night camping (Saturday) will be conducted in a backcountry setting. Participants will need to hike (hiking courses) or paddle (canoeing course) a short distance to the backcountry site. As part of the Trainer Course curriculum, participants will also be required to lead a 10-15 minute discussion or presentation on one of the Leave No Trace principles or other impact topic. Further details and guidance will be provided upon registration. These courses are presented by Green Earth Outdoors, an affiliated partner and approved training provider for Leave No Trace Trainer Courses for the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics.
