Janet Herrick, Jacksonville, FL State Advocate
Hello and welcome to Florida! I am Janet Herrick, LNT Master Educator, Wilderness First Responder and State Advocate for the Sunshine State and I live in Jacksonville, FL. I love my work with Leave No Trace, which I began back in January of 2003 when I attended my first trainer workshop in Florida State Caverns on a first “tent-date” with my now husband Adam Hoyles.
My goal as the Florida State Advocate is to maximum Leave No Trace's exposure and impact within my state. I also to seek to organize other Master Educators and Trainers to create a network of champions for the environment, and create an education-based Leave No Trace support system for outdoor activities within Florida. I do this by leading Awareness Workshops and Trainer Courses, especially to kids.
My BIG leadership goal is to eventually take Leave No Trace to Cuba when it opens up. By getting Leave No Trace firmly entrenched in Cuba’s amazing natural spaces at the onset, conservation efforts will be more successful in the long run. As Aldo Leopold said, “In these higher aspirations, the most important thing is not to achieve but to strive.”
